In what was a repeat of the scoreline from the first round encounter, Linette eased her way past Sorana Cirstea to seal her place in the last eight.
Linette, who had defeated Yulia Putintseva 6-4, 6-2 in the first round, scored a similar win over her Romanian opponent to make it through to her second quarterfinal in three hard court competitions.
The match lasted an hour and 23 minutes with Linette bombarding her opponent with a whopping 90% of her first serve points won. In fact so thorough was Linette’s serving she lost just seven points on her serves in the entire encounter.
She faced no break-points and in turn crashed Cirstea’s serve on three occasions – once in the first and twice in the second set.

Samsonova Extends Winning Streak
Samsonova won her seventh successive match on the WTA circuit, extending her form in hard court competitions after a mediocre start to it.
Having won the Washington Open and then missing in action at both, the Canadian Open and Cincinnati Open, Samsonova dropped just three games in her rout of Laura Siegemund in the second round.
This followed a 6-1, 6-0 win over Iryna Shymanovich in her opener.
Earlier in Washington, Samsonova had shown what she is capable of with victories over Elise Mertens and Emma Raducanu to reach the final where she had edged past Kaia Kanepi. It had been just her second WTA title following one last year on the grass court of the Berlin Open.
