Jack Draper v Marc-Andrea Huesler
Jack Draper is continuing his strong form in North America as the Brit has a chance for a semi-final in Winston-Salem. It comes after a stunning 6-1 6-4 win over Dominic Thiem setting up this clash against Huesler. Draper’s game is well suited for this part of the season with a very good serve and solid groundstrokes.
He doesn’t lack confidence after a strong start to the year and an excellent grass season. He is 40-12 on the year and 10-4 on hard courts with a chance to move inside the top 50 with a good result. Even more importantly he has a chance to win the trophy if he keeps up this level of play.
Huesler has done equally well to defeat last year’s defending champion Ilya Ivashka in three sets. The Swiss will enter the top 100 with this result but he looks quite dangerous to go deep. The serve, his main weapon, is working really well and it makes hard to create many chances against him.
Both of the sets Ivashka lost to him were in the tiebreak as he was unable to produce a good return when he needed to. Draper should have a better time and I expect him to get it done in two sets.
Tip: Draper to win in straight sets: 1/1 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
Sofia Kenin v Bernarda Pera
Sofia Kenin seems to have rediscovered some of her old form in Cleveland as the American is playing the best event in a very long time. She didn’t play most of that time but it’s good seeing her rediscover some magic that made her a grand slam champion.
She has a chance to secure a semi-final but it will be tricky against compatriot Pera. Bernarda is playing some very strong tennis this year, especially in the past couple of months. Her score on the season is 31-15 and 8-5 on hard courts.
A win over Barbora Krejcikova should give her even more belief but then again she’s going up against Kenin who looks equally confident at the moment. They never played before so this should be something new for both players. I do think Pera holds a slight edge simply due to being more consistent lately.
I could see Kenin taking a set or keeping it close but I think Pera will prevail in the end.
Tip: Pera to win AND Over 20.5 games in the match: 7/4 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
Rebbeca Marino v Marta Kostyuk
An interesting clash of generations in Granby will decide which player moves on to the semi-final. Both of them had solid wins in the previous round to move on here and both like to hit the ball hard. We’ll see plenty of that overall despite Marino having a bit more complete serve.
It’s a tricky one because it truly could go either way and there are arguments to be made by both. Kostyuk is 21-14 on the year and 15-8 on hard courts. Marino is 38-17 on the year and 27-9 on hard. She’s also playing at home which is another reason to back her.
It will be their first meeting and they both looked sharp earlier so I could either win. Marino should be less nervous in this match so it’s unlikely that she’ll go on an error spree as Kostyuk tends to go. Betting on the Canadian seems the better idea but a safer one would be the over.
I could see this go the distance so take the over.
