Benjamin Bonzi was able to secure another quarterfinal this year and it came in Winston-Salem. He opted to play one final event before the US Open and it was a decent showing where he added two wins to his tally before losing to Botic van de Zandschulp.
It was a very close match that ended in two tiebreaks and it just shows how hard Bonzi is to handle on fast courts like this. His serve is a devastating weapon and as long as it works, it’s really hard to create many chances against him. His aggressive playstyle looks to end points quickly making it even harder.
Bonzi is 32-20 on the year which is an impressive score for someone who mainly played on Challengers up until recently. His hard court level is ončy 6-9 but his turning things around there as well.
This will be the first time he plays the main draw in the US Open as he lost twice in the qualifiers before. The draw paired him up with Humbert, a compatriot who is very beatable. He’s favoured and for very good reason.

Challenger Tennis for Humbert
Ugo Humbert was once ranked fairly high on the rankings but poor play this year saw him way outside of the top 100. It forced him to play challenger events for a couple of weeks now with mixed results. He mostly goes deep but that’s not a surprise.
Most of his opposition is way weaker than he’s used to. Even so, he is yet to win a challenger trophy in the past months coming closest in Vancouver last week with a semi-final. He’s 19-22 which is a very poor score for somebody who is playing Challenger events for week but 13-8 on hard courts.
It’s hard to explain what really happened with Humbert but he’s always been a very streaky player. Sometimes it works sometimes it doesn’t but his game never quite progressed after he broke out. Once players figured out how to play it was really hard to counter that.
His best result at the US Open was the 2nd round in 2020 as he mostly lost in round one.
Benjamin Bonzi v Ugo Humbert Prediction and Tip
Very similar players in ways, Bonzi and Humbert are still quite different. Benjamin is playing far better tennis recently and this year generally which makes him the overwhelming favourite in my eyes.
There is a way for him to lose this match but I think he’ll be solid behind his serve. As long as he keeps it over 60 % this will be a comfortable win.
