Life on court seemed to be going her way when Kontaveit made it to the final of the Hamburg Open on clay last month. Since then, however, Kontaveit has fallen off the track a wee bit as she looks to get some results going on hard court surfaces.
The world number two did win a couple of rounds at the Prague Open but lost to Anastasia Potapova after that.
And what’s followed at the Canadian Open and the Cincinnati Open earlier this month has been disastrous, especially considering we are talking about the world number two.
Kontaveit was sent packing by Jil Teichmann in straight sets in Toronto and after struggling to get past Tereza Martincova in Cincinnati, lost to Shuai Zhang in a three-setter in Cincinnati.
She now starts off a 3/25 favourite here but will things be that easy for her?

Cristian in Only Her Second Grand Slam
She is 24 years old and making a comeback on the tour after being out of action for over five months because of injury. Cristian would realistically hope she can put up a fighting performance in her first match back.
The Romanian, who has played in the main draw of just one Grand Slam event before this, featured in seven tournaments earlier this year before taking a break due to fitness issues. All of them came on hard court surfaces, including one indoors and Cristian has won just four main draw encounters.
One of them came at the Australian Open where she won her first match at a major, defeating Priscila Hon.
Facing up to the world number two, however, will be a bridge too far for Cristian given her long layoff.
