Iga Świątek v Jasmine Paolini Head to Head
While these two have never faced off at the highest level, they did play on the ITF circuit in 2018. In a match played on clay, Swiatek had won dropping just three games.

Sure, one would like Swiatek to do a lot better than what she has in her previous four tournament appearances but a lot of it has to do with the kind of standards she has set for herself too.
The world number one, who was on a 37-match winning streak heading into her third round match at Wimbledon, fell in straight sets to Alize Cornet there. What followed was a seven-match sequence where Swiatek hasn’t ruled as dominating as she had in the past few months.
Winning just four of those seven matches, losses to Caroline Garcia, Beatriz Haddad Maia and Madison Keys, two of which came on hard court surfaces, would have given Swiatek a food for thought.
What’s also interesting to see is Swiatek hasn’t been at her best at the US Open, having never progressed beyond the fourth round here – she had done that last season. Can she start off with a strong showing to dispel any of those doubts?

Paolini Struggles on Hard Courts
Paolini’s overall record on hard court surfaces isn’t the best you would get and it’s been no different this year either.
There has been a third round appearance at the Indian Wells Open, sure, but other than that, in the nine outdoor hard court competitions Paolini’s played, the Italian hasn’t gotten past round two.
And even winning her opener has been a luxury – she has done it at just three tournaments.
Coming up against Swiatek when she has looked slightly vulnerable wouldn’t have been that daunting a task for someone with a slightly more nuanced play on hard courts. But for Paolini it seems like a mountainous task.
