Simona Halep v Daria Snigur Head to Head

At one stage over the last couple of seasons, there looked a serious danger of Halep falling away and spiralling down the WTA Rankings with results not going her way.
Things have changed around this season with Halep registering some solid wins, winning a couple of tournaments and jumping back up to seventh in the world. On hard court surfaces, her 23-5 record is as good as most on the circuit and she is currently fourth on the WTA Race to the Final.
The big question, however, is if Halep is fully fit coming into this tournament.
Having won the title at the Canadian Open with six successive victories, Halep added a first round win at the Cincinnati Open to her kitty but then withdrew from her second round match against Veronika Kudermetova.
A thigh injury was her concern and she would hope to be fully fit going into not just this encounter but for the rest of the tournament as well given she is one of the favourites coming into this one.

Snigur Makes Maiden Grand Slam Main Draw
Before this edition of the US Open, Snigur’s best showing at a Grand Slam was a second qualifying round appearance, which came at both, the Australian Open and Wimbledon of this season.
This time around she went two better, with wins at both the second and third qualifying rounds of the US Open to make it to the main draw.
Other than that, however, she has played in only two WTA tournament main draws in 2022, and lost in the openers at both. And while at 125th in the world, she is close to her personal best ranking, she is still some way off from finding her feet against a player of the calibre of Halep.
The only question is if Snigur can take advantage of any fitness concern that Halep might exhibit.

Halep, if fit, should have no major worries but could be a tad ginger to start things off. Expecting one of the sets to be a challenging one than the other but a straight-set win.
