Xiyu Wang is a new face on the WTA tour, but the 21-year-old has much to smile about heading into the US Open. The Chinese player is at a career high ranking of 75 and the youngster has a great chance of boosting that in New York.
Wang is making her second main draw appearance at the US Open, after losing in the opening round three years ago as a lucky loser. This time she makes it in via ranking, and after recording her first Slam main draw win in Melbourne this year, she will be confident of doubling her tally on Monday.
Wang has enjoyed most of her success in 2022 on clay courts, after reaching four challenger finals on that surface. However, her semi-final showing in Washington on the main tour took many by surprise, and featured a stunning win over former world number one Victoria Azarenka.
Despite the youngster’s victory over Viktoria Kuzmova in the Australian Open, she is still seeking her first top 100 win at a Major. However, her recent results suggest she has a great chance of achieving that feat here.

Teenager Parry One to Watch in New York
Diane Parry is just 19 years of age, but has shown great maturity throughout 2022, with some very impressive results that suggest she could be a real force over the coming years.
The teen possesses a wonderful one-handed backhand which has helped her to third-rounds at Roland Garros, where she defeated defending champion Barbora Krejcikova, and Wimbledon, where only eventual finalist Ons Jabeur could stop her. She is still however looking for her first US Open main draw victory.
Aside from impressive showings at the European majors, Parry’s early season results were fairly ordinary. Since Wimbledon though, she has reached the quarter finals of the WTA 250 event in Palermo on clay, and last week made the semi-finals in Granby, losing to the champion Daria Kasatkina.
Parry will be fancying her chances of making it through to the second round in New York, but the closeness in rankings between both players suggests it will be a battle right until the very end.

Despite the impressive nature of Wang’s performances of late, Parry has shown better Grand Slam form, and considering her semi-final run in Granby, she will also be riding high on confidence, and should edge the Chinese in this one.
