Kenin Would Look to Build on Cleveland Performance
Back after a long layoff this month, Sofia Kenin struggled to win a match in Washington, Toronto and Cincinnati, but the 2020 Australian Open champion got into some sort of form just before the start of the U.S. Open.
Playing in the Cleveland Open, the 23-year-old defeated Dalayna Hewitt in straight sets in the first round and Irina Camelia Begu in the second round to reach her second quarterfinal of the season and her first since the opening tournament of the year in Adelaide. Kenin eventually went down fighting to Bernarda Pera in three, but more importantly the tournament ended her nine-match losing streak that dated to the quarterfinal loss to Ash Barty in Adelaide.
Plagued by poor form, injury and COVID-19 last year, Kenin didn’t have a strong 2021. Things got worse this year, when she suffered a leg injury at the Indian Wells Open, which sidelined her for four months. She had a cast on her right leg and was walking with crutches, before returning to action in Washington earlier this month.
The American, who had peaked to No. 4 in 2020, was also a finalist at the French Open two years ago. At the U.S. Open, Kenin will be making her seventh appearance. She made first round exits in 2015 and 2016 and then reached the third round in the next three years. Her best result came in 2020, when she made it to the fourth round.
Currently ranked No. 327 in the world, she will be desperate to work her way back up the rankings. Expect her to get her campaign off on a winning note and then build from there.

Niemeier Set for U.S. Open Debut
After a stunning run to the quarterfinals at Wimbledon this year, Jule Niemeier has certainly got the tennis world talking about her, and now there are expectations from her to back that performance with consistent displays in other tournaments.
Since going down to Tatajna Maria in the last eight at the grass court major, Niemeier reached the quarterfinals in Lausanne and fell in the first round in Hamburg and an ITF event in Bronx.
Ranked No. 108 in the world, the German has played a lot on clay and has found more success on that surface than on any other surface. She recently won her first WTA 125 title in Makarska, Croatia on clay. All her six ITF finals have also been on clay, with her winning four of them.
In contrast, she has played very little on hard courts and a 36-32 overall career record on hard, from all levels, is a testament of that.
The 23-year-old will be making her U.S. Open debut this year, having faltered in the second qualifying round last year.
Kenin v Niemeier Prediction and Tip
With Kenin registering two wins in Cleveland and then taking her opponent to three sets in the quarterfinal, she seems to be getting back in form. She is a superior hard court player than Niemeier and is expected to win her opener with ease.
Tip: Kenin to win in straight sets: 8/11 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
