Mayar Sherif v Marta Kostyuk Head to Head
They played once and Sherif won that match. It happened this year at the French Open with the match going 6-3 7-5 to the Egyptian.

Sherif Looking to End Losing Streak
Mayar Sherif lost four matches in a row and she will be hoping to end her losing streak at this event. Sherif hasn’t played much since the French Open taking part in only three matches since then, skipping the entire grass season. Two of those were on hard courts and both were losses.
It doesn’t take much to understand that she really doesn’t enjoy playing anywhere away from clay but even so, she’s capable of producing an okay level on other surfaces. Generally, it’s been a rather good year for her with a 17-14 record but she’s 1-11 on hard courts.
That’s a terrible record and it doesn’t look likely to improve at the US Open. She faces a player she defeated before but it was on clay.
In these conditions, Sherif looks unlikely to do anything of note.

Kostyuk Shining in Granby
Marta Kostyuk shined in Granby but was forced to retire from her match against Daria Saville in the semi-final of the event. She did play a couple of long matches earlier in the week so it might have been more fatigue-related than injury related.
But we don’t know as Kostyuk did not speak to the media but any assumptions made in this text will be as if she’s healthy. The Ukrainian plays well on clay courts and has a really strong 16-8 record on the surface this year. It’s been a good year generally for her with a 22-14 record.
That’s quite admirable considering what she is going through in her private life. It also signals a strong mental aspect of her game that is often overlooked. Her groundstrokes are well known and they will suit her well in New York.
If she can combine them with the consistency showin in Granby, Kostyuk could be dangerous and primed for a run to the second week.
Sherif v Kostyuk Prediction and Tip
This is a fairly simple one. If Kostyuk is healthy she should win the match. If not, Sherif might have a chance but even then it’s a slight one.
Both tend to spray errors so this might not be a match with the highest quality but I do think Kostyuk will win and if she does, probably in two.
Tip: Kostyuk to win in straight sets: 8/11 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
