Top seeded Garbine Muguruza will face a tough competition from teenager Dayana Yastremska in their quarter-final match at the 2019 Hua Hin Open on Friday, February 1. The match will start at around 12 noon BST.

Muguruza’s Good Start
Two matches played, two matches won in this tournament. It’s not been as bad as it was turning out to be and as we mentioned in our previous preview, Muguruza looked to have arrested the slide. The bigger question is whether she can get back to her best enough to try and beat the top players around – something that she was unable to do against Karolina Pliskova.
Still, her two, straight set wins over Sabine Lisicki and Mona Barthel should give her a lot of confidence. As should the fact that she made the fourth round at the first major of the year.
What would also help is that the former Grand Slam winner was in trouble at different times in the match including in the second set. She was 0-4 down and came back to clinch the second set of that second round match 7-5.
The other way of looking at it is she fell 4-0 down in the first place against an opponent who has fallen drastically in the rankings. Can Yastremska take advantage of that?
Youngster Yastremska on the Rise
She is just 18, played in only two main draws of Grand Slam tournaments and already making waves. Even before she had made her main draw debut at the US Open last year she had gone on to win her first ever WTA title in Hong Kong. In doing so, she defeated Wang Qiang in the final, another upcoming star.
There was a semi-final entry at Luxembourg Open, a quarter-final at the Hobart International before she made the third round at the Australian Open. Interestingly, at both the first two aforementioned tournaments, she was beaten by Belinda Bencic while Serena Williams sent her out at the first major.
Now she has overcome Arantxa Rus and Shuai Peng in the first two rounds to set up this meeting.
Garbine Muguruza v Dayana Yastremska Head to Head
We have spoken a lot about Muguruza’s loss of form late last year and how difficult it was becoming for her. In fact it was Yastremska who played her part as well, in the round of 16 at the Luxembourg Open where the Ukrainian won a straight-setter against the Spaniard. That was their only meeting and Muguruza would quickly like to erase that memory with a win here.
