Beatriz Haddad Maia v Bianca Andreescu Head to Head
They have never faced off in a competitive match at the highest level but Haddad Maia and Andreescu did face off once on the ITF circuit. Haddad Maia had won that 2016 encounter.

What she would love for is to show the first round win was no flash in the pan, as she takes on a very big challenge in the form of Andreescu in the second.

Andreescu Needs Three Sets to Overcome Tan
Interestingly, when the first set of the Andresscu versus Harmony Tan ended, it looked like things could even head the same way as Haddad Maia’s opening round encounter. The possibility of a double-bagel was high.
Tan, however, having lost the opening set to love, came back with an early break in the second and completed the equaliser to push the match into a decider.
Andreescu, however, found her rhythm again and a couple of breaks followed as she completed a 6-0, 3-6, 6-1 win in an hour and 42 minutes.
The Canadian had played at the Toronto Open and made the third round there before opting out of the Cincinnati Open on the US Open Series. A win here is a good start but she now comes up against a player who is not just ranked higher but also in beautiful form all season.
