Nick Kyrgios played his best friend Thanasi Kokkinakis in round one of the event and he played a really solid match to win in straight sets. It was quite competitive and Kyrgios crushed over 40 winners and over 10 aces in this super solid win.
The Australian is widely considered a dark horse candidate in New York because his form leading up to New York has been really good. It will come down to motivation as he showed at Wimbledon that he is good enough to play n a grand slam final.
The most amazing thing in the win for Kyrgios was the fact that he didn’t face a single break point in the entire match and such a level will be very hard to beat if he’s able to keep that up against other players.
Up next is a player that doesn’t think much and such a match can turn crazy pretty quickly but if the Aussie remains focused he’ll have the advantage.

Bonzi Escapes Humbert
Benjamin Bonzi faced compatriot Ugo Humbert in round one and it was a 5-set match that was barely won by Bonzi. Humbert arrived in solid form to New York but dropped the first two sets to his compatriot. He fought back to force a decider but Bonzi survived.
It was a very competitive et but also one where Bonzi really risked a lot with his serve. A very good server naturally, he struggled with his placement all match long resulting in almost double the number of double faults than aces. That rarely happens but luckily his in-game placement was much better.
Bonzi posted 45 winners and 36 unforced errors in the 9 ace and 15 double faults efforts. Humbert was really aggressive and had more winners but also more mistakes.
He’ll face a similar effort from Kyrgios so this was a solid practice match for Bonzi.
Kyrgios v Bonzi Prediction and Tip
Kyrgios will be favoured here because he does everything Bonzi does but much better. The French player showed some weakness in round one and I expect Nick to exploit it.
