Aryna Sabalenka v Kaia Kanepi Head to Head

Kaia Kanepi owns a 2-0 lead over Sabalenka. Both matches were contested on hard courts, with Kanepi winning as recently as this year’s Australian Open when she stunned the Belarusian in three sets.

Sabalenka Routines Harrison

Aryna Sabalenka eased her way into the second round of the US Open courtesy of a 6-1 6-3 win over American qualifier Catherine Harrison.

Harrison is a renowned doubles specialist, often using her deft doubles play in qualifying for the main draw. But she had no chance whatsoever to combat Sabalenka’s power.

From the get-go, the Belarusian’s mission was clear, to generate sufficient pace, cut down the angles, and work her opponents from one corner to another. Harrison could not win a game on serve in the first set, and although she improved sporadically in the second set, the match was indeed over as a contest.

Sabalenka fired 27 winners, twice as many as Harrison’s, and broke serve six times from 13 opportunities.

Kanepi Motors Past Martincova

Kaia Kanepi kept her recent good form in North America as she powered past Tereza Martincova on Tuesday. In a tight first set, both players delivered on all fronts on Court 14 as they searched to establish a lead.

However, it was Kanepi who shifted to another gear in a close tiebreak which eventually was decided by a mini break. Kanepi finished off the set with a one-two punch from her serve and forehand.

In the second set, it was one-way traffic. Kanepi raced to a 4-1 lead with a break of serve. And despite Martincova’s best efforts to prickle the Estonian’s serve for the first time all afternoon, her momentum was only shortlived.

Kanepi broke back again and served her way into the second round, finishing off the match with an unreturned serve.

Sabalenka v Kanepi Prediction and Tip

One of the unseeded players who could wreak havoc at this year’s US Open is Kaia Kanepi. And it looks like she won’t have to wait long to do so. Sabalenka’s serving jitters are a real cause for concern, and Kanepi will surely capitalize big time.
