Jannik Sinner looked in trouble against Daniel Altmaier after dropping the first set as the German is a very streaky player who found a lot of confidence after that. Even so, Sinner was able to reset in proper fashion and smashed him in the next two sets.
It looked like he would close out the match but allowed himself to serve poorly down the stretch in the 4th set dropping it. A decider favoured Sinner and he would get it 6-1 but it almost did not go that way. It was a decent match from Sinner but far from his best and very inconsistent.
The serve was very good at times but also quite poor at other times. His success in the rallies was closely tied to the way he serve but he was also quite inconsistent from the baseline.
The winners were really good as he had 51 but he also had 45 errors. If he can keep that difference larger than ten, he would be in a good position. Either way a struggling win but those are the ones that build confidence in events like these.

Eubanks Extends Winning Run
Christopher Eubanks came through the qualifiers into the main draw and the American continued playing well. Despite dropping his serve early in the match against Pedro Martinez, he was able to stay in the match and turn around the first set.
That injected him with a lot of confidence and he was able to win the second set as well. Complications arose in the final set as he dropped a lead towards the end but rallied to win in the tiebreak. His aggressiveness was off the charts against a player who rarely attacks.
Fortune follows the brave and it certainly followed him in this 62 winners 60 unforced errors effort. He blasted 23 aces as well which helped.
Things will be much harder against Sinner especially if he tries to trade blows with him but he’ll try and get to round three. H never did that before with this year already being his best US Open ever.
Sinner v Eubanks Prediction and Tip
Sinner is the absolute favourite here but that doesn’t mean that he will cruise. Eubanks won’t think too much and play his game which could be problematic. I do think the America might get one set but not win.
Jannik is too good in trading blows with the forehand to falter under the pressure Eubanks brings to a rally.
