Iga Swiatek v Sloane Stephens Head to Head
They have faced off each other just one time before this and it came at the 2022 Cincinnati Open. Swiatek had won that second round encounter in straight sets.

There was always that worry that Swiatek’s recent form might have a bearing in the manner in which she went about her business at the start of the season’s final Grand Slam. The manner in which she, however, demolished Jasmine Paolini in her opener proved otherwise.
Swiatek won 6-3, 6-0 in an hour and seven minutes and while there were brief phases during the match when her serve looked troubled, her overall game was far too superior for the world number 56.
The world number one raced off to a 4-1 lead and while she dropped her serve on two occasions after that, it wasn’t enough to push her off her comfort zone. And once Swiatek had won the first set, she ran through Paolini in the second, in all breaking her seven times to clinch the victory.
What will be interesting to see is if Swiatek can now continue in the same vein in round two as well after having fallen at that stage at both, the Canadian Open and Cincinnati Open recently.

Stephens Shrugs off Poor Start against Minnen
Greet Minnen looked to be running away with her first round encounter against Stephens as she won the opening set and took a 2-0 lead in the second. It was then that Stephens finally managed to shrug off her issues as she clawed back and registered a three-set win.
Stephens won 1-6, 6-3, 6-3 in two hours and 11 minutes to advance to the second round of a tournament she had won in 2017.
Since then, Stephens might not have been in the best of forms otherwise, but has still managed to make the quarterfinal once and the third round on two occasions.
Here, given her start and the fact she faces Swiatek next could have a bearing as Stephens looks like she would need a mini-miracle of sorts to dish out a similar dose to the world number one too.

Swiatek hasn’t had the best of second round encounters in recent times but that should not have too much bearing on this contest. Expect Swiatek to win in straight sets.
