Nick Kyrgios v JJ Wolf Head to Head

There have been no previous meetings between Kyrgios and Wolf on a tennis court.

Kyrgios Drops Set to Bonzi

Kyrgios looked to be in control for most part of his second round match against Benjamin Bonzi and while he did lose a set, he managed to regroup quickly enough to register a second round victory.

The Aussie won 7-6 (3), 6-4, 4-6, 6-4 to enter the third round of US Open, having historically never gone beyond that stage at this tournament before this.

In a match lasting just shy of three hours, Kyrgios and Bonzi exchanged early breaks in the first set before the Aussie won the ensuing tie-breaker. The second set went on serve till Kyrgios took advantage of a nervous Bonzi serving to stay in the set at 4-5 to go two up.

And the third set was also going down to that very script when Bonzi broke Kyrgios against the run of play to pull one back. The momentum shift lasted for a bit as Bonzi drew first blood in the fourth set too but Kyrgios did not buckle down, breaking right back before finishing things out with another break of serve at 5-4.

Having routed Thanasi Kokkinakis in the first round, Kyrgios will now be gunning for his first ever place in the US Open fourth round.

Wolf Emulates 2020 Showing

Wolf’s record at Grand Slam tennis is rather peculiar. He has never gone past the qualifying stage at any of the other Grand Slam appearances but for the 2020 US Open where he had made the third round.

And now, here at Flushing Meadows yet again, Wolf has emulated that very showing with a second round victory over Alejandro Tabilo.

Like Kyrgios, Wolf was also taken to a fourth set, rallying from losing the first set to complete a 4-6, 7-5, 6-4, 6-3 victory as he grew into the encounter.

This followed Wolf’s shock win over Roberto Bautista-Agut in the first round but after having shown at the Washington Open earlier this month what he is capable of. There he had defeated Denis Shapovalov and Holger Rune to reach the last eight stage.

Can Wolf now test out the in-form Kyrgios?

Kyrgios v Wolf Prediction and Tip

Kyrgios is a very heavy favourite yet again but he would do well to not take Wolf for granted. We could be looking at a Kyrgios win again though given his focus but one in which he loses a set.

Tip: Kyrgios to win AND Both players to win a set: 13/10 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
