Belinda Bencic v Karolina Pliskova Head to Head
Their only previous meeting came at the 2019 Indian Wells Open where Bencic defeated Pliskova to march into the semifinals of the tournament.

It wasn’t ever going to be a straightforward match for Bencic and Sorana Cirstea proved why she had had the better of their rivalry in the past.
In the end, Bencic’s form and experience proved to be too much to handle for Cirstea as the Swiss overcame a first set loss to seal her third round berth. The match lasted two hours and 28 minutes.
After being up a break early in the first set, Bencic lost her serve twice in quick time to concede the set. And when she was broken again in the middle of the second for Cirstea to take a 5-3 lead, the writing looked to be on the wall.
Bencic wasn’t done though as she broke back two times in a row to level the encounter before going 4-1 up in the decider with an early break. Cirstea never recovered from that and lost her serve again to fall away.
The Swiss player had earlier needed three sets to get past Andrea Petkovic in the first round too. Can she up her game against a former world number one?

Pliskova Demolishes Bouzkova
Marie Bouzkova had gone into her second round match against the former world number one Pliskova as a 7/10 favourite. It was a tad surprising but also spoke of the kind of trust Pliskova evokes these days with her tennis.
Fortunately for the 2021 Wimbledon runner-up, she looked at her best in a while as she took down her fellow countrywoman with ease. Pliskova won 6-3, 6-2 in under 70 minutes to make it through to round three, following on from the quarterfinal appearance she had made here last year.
With a brutal three-setter against Magda Linette under her belt in round one, Pliskova would have been pleased with her serving in this. She won 91% of her first serve points and faced just one break-point which she saved with ease.
In turn, she broke Bouzkova three times to march into round three.
Bencic v Pliskova Prediction and Tip
This could turn out to be an interesting contest between two players who seem to be neither here nor there with their form. Expecting a three-setter here.
