World No. 8 Jessica Pegula has enjoyed a pretty comfortable start to her US Open campaign as she beat the likes of Viktorija Golubic and Aliaksandra Sasnovich in straight sets.
These results are not least surprising as she had a good build-up to the tournaments – with a semifinal run in Toronto and a quarterfinal feat in Cincinnati.
Pegula was also a quarterfinalist in the Australian Open and French Open and a runner-up in the Madrid Open. Moreover, she won four titles across Melbourne Summer Set, Qatar Open, Washington Open, and Canadian Open on the doubles side of the circuit.
Needless to say, the 28-year-old has enjoyed a stellar season so far, as she is now ranking in the top 10 in singles and doubles. With her tally now at 33-16, it is hard to imagine her succumbing to Yuan, who is just getting started on the WTA Tour.

Yuan Enjoying a Breakthrough Moment
Yue Yuan, age 23, has just posted the best Grand Slam results of her career by making it to round three in the US Open. Up until now, her previous best feat was the first-round showing in Wimbledon.
She is the current World No. 142 and arrived in New York with a rather mediocre tally of 21-20. Most of her current season on the WTA circuit has gone by in qualifying/opening round losses – but she did gain valuable experience in the process.
On the WTA side of things, she has two finals.
In the US Open, she began as a qualifier and beat Katie Volynets, Mai Hontama, and Maddison Inglis – all in straight sets – to reach the main draw.
Thereafter, she dispatched Jaimee Fourlis (6-3, 6-2) and Irina-Camelia Begu (6-3, 7-6(8)).
