Matteo Berrettini v Alejandro Davidovich Fokina Head to Head
Their only previous meeting came on the clay courts of Monte-Carlo in 2021 where Fokina had defeated Berrettini in straight sets to make the third round.

For a while after making it to the final at the Queen’s Club competition on grass and then another one at Gstaad on clay, Berrettini’s form seemed to have slipped.
In the two tournaments he played on hard court surfaces as a part of the US Open Series, Berrettini had lost his openers despite been heavy favourites going into both of them.
Which is why a third successive win here at the US Open has probably slowly rebuilt his confidence and form – defeating a doughty Andy Murray in round three chipping away at any cobwebs that might have remained.
Berrettini won 6-4, 6-4, 6-7 (1), 6-3 in a match lasting three hours and 47 minutes, as he faced just four break-points in the entire encounter. In turn he broke Murray five times, and could well have finished off the match in three had he managed to convert any one of the eight chances he had in the third set.
With signs of constant improvement in his tennis, it wouldn’t be a surprise to see Berrettini live up to his 2/5 (with bet365) odds to scoop this up.

Davidovich Fokina Scrapes Through Against Galan
It took three hours and 17 minutes alright but in the end, Davidovich Fokina broke Daniel Elahi Galan’s resistance and booked his place in the round of 16 for the second time at the US Open.
Davidovich Fokina, who had needed a fifth set tie-breaker against Marton Fucsovics in his previous match, came through 6-4, 5-7, 6-4, 6-4 in a match where both players won about 60% of the points on their own serve.
In a game of inches, it was Davidovich Fokina’s 61 unforced errors which could have taken the encounter away from him but he played better at crucial junctures and that’s what allowed him to boss the contest.
Against a player of the calibre of Berrettini though, Davidovich Fokina will need to do a lot better than that. No surprises he starts off 11/5 (with bet365) to shock his opponent in this one.
