Cori Gauff v Shuai Zhang Head to Head
They faced off once before this in a match that came in the Miami Open earlier this season. Gauff had registered a 7-6 (1), 7-5 win over Zhang in that one.

Gauff is currently 6/1 to win the title, third in the pecking order behind Iga Swiatek and Caroline Garcia and it’s no surprise why. For the third match in a row, Gauff demolished her opponent in straight sets with the scary thing being her improved play as the rounds have gone ahead.
Not to mention Gauff’s win in this third round came against a highly-pedigreed and in-form player in the form of Madison Keys. Earlier she had overcome Leolia Jeanjean and Elena Ruse in the first two.
Coming up against Keys, Gauff lost her serve in the first game itself but from there on, she broke her countrywoman three times to wrap things up in the first set.
Up 4-2 in the second, Gauff dropped serve again but broke soon after and carved out her victory, leaving Keys a bit flummoxed.

Zhang Also on a Roll
Much like Gauff, Zhang has also won all her three rounds in straight sets. The latest of her victims was Rebecca Marino, whom she crushed 6-2, 6-4 to set up a fourth round meeting for the first time at the US Open.
Zhang, who had overcome Jil Teichmann and Anna Karolina Schmiedlova in the first two rounds, needed just an hour and five minutes to get through her match against Marino.
The world number 36 broke her opponent three times while not facing a single break-point in the encounter. She won 73% of her first serve points but what was interesting to note was she hit just 14 winners to her opponent’s 16.
Can Zhang now up the ante to the kind of levels which have seen her overcome top 10 players in the past, including the world number two Anett Kontaveit in Cincinnati only two weeks ago?
