Ajla Tomljanovic v Tamara Zidansek Head to Head
The two ladies have met twice already on the WTA tour and the tally is currently tied at 1-1. Both of those encounters took place in 2018 and it was Tomljanovic who got the last win. They met in the second round of the WTA Seoul where the Australian won in three sets.
Tomljanovic’s Best Run of the Season
The 25-year-old Australian had a highly disappointing spell in the Australian Open series. However, she turned that form around in Hua Hin and is now inching closer to her first WTA title of the career.
Prior to arriving in Thailand, she played in Melbourne and Sydney where she lost in the first round. She also participated in the Brisbane International where she lost in the quarterfinal to Karolina Pliskova. As for her run in the Hua Hin Championships, she has won all of her matches so far in straight sets. Most recently, she dispatched the fourth-seeded Chinese Saisai Zheng 6-1, 6-3.
If she wins this fixture against Zidansek, it will be her fourth appearance in a WTA final on the tour. She has lost the last three times, including the 2015 Thailand Open. Last season, she was also the runner-up at the Morocco Open, along with Seoul.
Zidansek Finds Her Rhythm
The young Slovakian is in the same boat as Tomljanovic, seeking her first singles title. Nonetheless, at just 21 years of age, she has already won 17 ITF titles and one WTA 125K Series trophy.
Just like her Australian adversary, Zidansek too started her season on a disappointing note. She lost her opening matches in the last three tournaments before finally registering some impressive victories in Hua Hin. Her path was fairly tricky, comprising a couple of three-set matches against Jennifer Brady and Viktorija Golubic.
She spent most of her previous season alternating between ITF and WTA events. She is still building her experience and it will be interesting to see how she fares against Tomljanovic.
Tomljanovic v Zidansek – Who Will Win?
Tomljanovic will start this match as the favourite to win, owing to her experience and seeding. However, considering her recent form and past matches, there is a very good possibility that she may succumb to the young Slovak. This will be a close match that can very well go to three sets. For the Australian to win, bet365 are offering 4/9.
