Casper Ruud v Matteo Berrettini Head to Head

The overall head to head between these two players is 3-2 in favour of Ruud, but four of those matches have come on clay. Even there, Berrettini did manage to win one at Madrid last year.

Their only match-up on hard court was at the 2020 US Open where Berrettini won in straight sets to move into the fourth round.

Ruud Makes it to Maiden Non-Clay Grand Slam Quarterfinal

Best known for his performances on clay, Ruud has shown remarkable improvement in his non-clay results and his showing here at the US Open is another example of it.

While Ruud hasn’t played a top player of note so far, victories over Kyle Edmund, Tim Van Rijthoven and Tommy Paul before he came into his fourth round match against Corentin Moutet were well done.

And another three-hour-22-minute, fourth round win against Moutet sealed the deal for Ruud, who now enters his quarterfinal match knowing he can become the world number one come the next Monday!

Yes, that’s an outside possibility and will need a plethora of results go his way but the very fact that the Norwegian has that chance is testimony to the manner in which things have changed for him.

For starters, however, Ruud will need to make it past the racquet of Matteo Berrettini for which bet365 is offering 4/5. Not too bad for a supposed clay-court specialist.

Berrettini Stretched to Five by Fokina

Berrettini was a whopping 3/10 (with bet365) favourite to win his fourth round clash with Alejandro Davidovich Fokina but he made heavy weather of doing so.

The Italian and former Wimbledon finalist required three hours and 46 minutes to get past Fokina, winning 3-6, 7-6 (2), 6-3, 4-6, 6-2 and make it to the US Open quarterfinals for the third time in the previous four attempts.

A break of serve in his very first game saw Berrettini drop the opening set but he slowly came back into his own by winning the tie-breaker from being a break down in the second set.

Two breaks of serves in the third gave Berrettini a two sets to one lead but he then dropped his serve in the fourth set against the run of play and never managed to get it back.

In the decider, however, Berrettini ensured there were no surprises as he carved out a couple of breaks to run away with the encounter.

Rather interestingly, despite being a better hard-court player than Ruud he starts off at 1/1 (with bet365) to overcome his opponent.

Ruud v Berrettini Prediction and Tip

Ruud’s preparation and bloody-mindedness make him a mild favourite according to the bookmakers but we will still have to go with Berrettini who looks like a tempting option at 1/1 to carve this one out.

Tip: Berrettini to win AND Both players to win a set: 15/8 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
