Ons Jabeur v Caroline Garcia Head to Head

Jabeur has won both the previous meetings; one of those was at the U.S. Open in 2019 and the other at the Australian Open in 2020.

Jabeur Into First U.S. Open Semifinal

Ons Jabeur became the first African woman to reach the semifinals of the U.S. Open. The fifth seed dominated the proceedings against Australia’s Ajla Tomljanovic with her variety and craftiness and dispatched the Aussie 6-4, 7-6 (7-4).

Before Wimbledon this year, the Tunisian had never made it past the quarterfinals of a Grand Slam, but following her runner-up finish at the All England Club this year, she has now reached back-to-back major semifinals.

The World No. 5 struck 29 winners against Tomljanovic and converted 5 of 6 break points, while saving 2 of 6 during the one hour and 41 minute contest.

Jabeur has dropped just one set in the tournament so far and that was in the third round against American Shelby Rogers. The Tunisian lost the opening set in that match before coming back to win 4-6, 6-4, 6-3.

She had begun the tournament with wins over Americans Madison Brengle and Elizabeth Mandlik in the first two rounds respectively, winning with an identical scoreline of 7-5, 6-2.

Jabeur faced her first non-American opponent in the fourth round, beating 18th seed Veronika Kudermetova 7-6 (7-1), 6-4 before knocking out Australia’s Tomljanovic in the quarters on Tuesday. It will be interesting to see if she can reach a second consecutive major final; if she does, it will also be a sixth final of the year for her.

She was a champion in Madrid and Berlin but finished runner-up in Charleston, Rome and Wimbledon. Jabeur is 13/10 with bet365 to win this encounter.

Garcia Breezes Past Gauff

Caroline Garcia extended her unbeaten run to 13 matches (including two qualifiers in Cincinnati) as the Frenchwoman stormed into her first major semifinal with a straight sets win over Coco Gauff on Tuesday.

The 17th seed, who had never gone beyond the third round in her past nine U.S. Open appearances, came out firing on all cylinders against Gauff in the quarterfinal. She raced to a 4-0 lead, before the 12th seed pulled a break back, but Garcia didn’t make another mistake and claimed the first set.

She then broke Gauff in the very first game of the second. She could have broken the American again in the fifth game, but Gauff saved two break points before holding serve. In the very next game it was Gauff who missed out on a break point. Garcia held on to the break advantage till the end of the set to clinch the contest 6-3, 6-4.

The Frenchwoman, who came in as the Cincinnati Open champion, has not dropped a set in the tournament. In fact Garcia is only the second player to have broken her serve in the five matches at the U.S. Open. The other was Bianca Andreescu, who broke Garcia twice in the third round, before going down to the 28-year-old 6-3, 6-2.

Garcia didn’t face a single break point in her first two rounds against Kamilla Rakhimova and Anna Kalinskaya respectively. She faced four against Alison Riske-Amritraj in the fourth round but saved all of them to beat the 29th seed 6-4, 6-1.

Garcia, who featured in just one major quarterfinal before, at the French Open in 2017, has won three titles this year—the Bad Homburg Open, the Poland Open and the Cincinnati Open. She is 31-4 since the start of the Bad Homburg Open in June and 40-15 overall in 2022.

Can Garcia, who is 3/5 with bet365 to win this, keep her dominant run going in the semifinal?

Jabeur v Garcia Prediction and Tip

Both players are in top form at the moment and one can expect an intense three-set battle. Jabeur has more experience of playing in the later stages of Grand Slam tournaments and she was a finalist in the last major, so that experience may give her a slight edge over her rival in the high pressure contest.

She has also beaten Garcia in both their previous meetings and that should give the Tunisian a psychological edge as well.

Garcia, meanwhile is in the form of her life and wouldn’t want the streak to end, but the Tunisian holds a slight edge and could advance in three.

Tip: Jabeur to win in three sets: 3/1 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
