It’s Been a Tough Season for Peterson
Knocked out in the first round in Granby and in the opening round of the U.S. Open, Rebecca Peterson will look to bounce back at the Chennai Open.
The World No. 92 heads to India with a 19-17 season record from all tournaments. At the tour-level, her best this year was a quarterfinal finish at home in Bastad.
When taking all levels into consideration, Peterson delivered her best performance at the WTA 125 in Vancouver, where she reached the semifinals before falling to Lucia Bronzetti.
The 27-year-old, who reached a career-high ranking of No. 43 in 2019, had a much better 2021 than 2022. She has struggled to go past the early rounds this year and will be hoping to turn things around in Chennai.
She will be expected to get off to a good start on Monday.

Kasintseva is a Former Australian Open Junior Champion
Victoria Jimenez Kasintseva will be making just her second main draw appearance. The 17-year-old had made her main draw debut in Madrid last year, only to fall in the first round.
Ranked No. 186th in the world, the Andorran is 15-11 from all tournaments this year. Her best was a runner-up finish at an ITF event in Bendigo, Australia.
She was also a semifinalist at the ITF tournament in La Bisbal on clay. Most recently, she put up a great show in WTA 125 in Vancouver, winning the first two rounds before falling to Bronzetti in the quarterfinals.
Kasintseva won the Australian Open girls’ title in 2020 and reached the World No. 1 junior ranking in March that year. Overall, Kasintseva has won one and finished runner-up twice at the ITF level. She has also won nine ITF junior titles.
Can she make an impression in Chennai?
