It’s not been her best season so far as Paolini has struggled to get going with any sort of a consistent set of results. Of the 30 main draw matches she’s been a part of, Paolini has won just 13 and lost the remaining 17.
This record becomes worse on hard court surfaces with just six wins from 16 matches coming her way this year so far.
And while losing her opener at the US Open to Iga Swiatek was probably on expected lines, she would have loved to do a lot better than a straight-set defeat to Marta Kostyuk in the Cincinnati Open qualifiers and another defeat in the second round of the Granby Open to Rebecca Marino.
Earlier this season, in a rare show of brilliance, Paolini had overcome Katie Boulter and then stunned Aryna Sabalenka at the Indian Wells Open to reach round three. That looked to be an exception to her form norm, however, and she would hope to turn things around here in Slovenia.

Wurth Hobbles into the Main Draw
She is only 19 years of age, so on the one hand, Wurth would be pleased to have made it to the main draw of this competition.
However, given she had gone in as a favourite in both those matches against Timea Babos and Lina Gjorcheska, back to back three-setters were bit of a surprise.
Wurth is also more of a clay-court player, having featured in just five matches on hard court across all levels this year. This includes these two qualifiers. On the other hand, the Croat has played 43 clay court encounter in 2022.
In what will be her first main draw match for the season on a hard court surface, Wurth might not have it very easy.
Paolini v Wurth Prediction and Tip
This should be an easy win for Paolini on paper but given her recent issues, she could be given a run for her money in this one. A three-setter can be expected.
