Kiki Bertens v Donna Vekic Head to Head

Bertens and Vekic share quite an interesting rivalry. They have met a total of four times so far and Vekic currently leads by 3-1 over Bertens. She has won their last three meetings, with the most recent one taking place in the 2019 WTA Brisbane.

The young Croatian won that match in three sets to reach the semifinal.

Vekic Continues to Shine

Vekic is currently enjoying one of the best performances of her career – a feat that is likely to propel her into the top 30. The 22-year-old has defeated some of the most experienced players in St. Petersburg, starting with Timea Bacsinszky and moving up to the World No. 2 Petra Kvitova and two-time Grand Slam runner-up Vera Zvonareva.

This is the seventh time that Vekic has made it to the final of a WTA event. In the past, she has been victorious only twice – in 2014 Malaysian Open and the 2017 WTA Nottingham.

Her performance last season was fairly uneventful, except for her runner-up feat in Washington. She also reached the fourth round in Wimbledon – her best performance in a Grand Slam. Over the course of the year, she defeated many prominent players like Sloane Stephens, Carolina Garcia, and Maria Sakkari.

Bertens’ Clinical Performance

The World No. 8 has been highly impressive in St. Petersburg. She started as the second seed and enjoyed a bye into the second round. Her most notable victories came against Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova and Aryna Sabalenka.

With that win, Bertens has outdone her result in Sydney earlier this year, where she was a semifinalist. Last season, the Dutch won three singles title and was also the runner-up in the Madrid Open. She eventually qualified for the WTA Finals Singapore, where she reached as far as the semifinal.

Bertens v Vekic Predictions & Tips

Bertens is going to start this match as the favourite to win and for this, bet365 are offering 8/13.

However, given her record against Vekic, she is bound to be slightly intimidated by the young Croat. Vekic has already delivered a top seed upset in St. Petersburg and it is more than possible that she will do it again. Expect this one to go three sets.
