Jasmine Paolini v Kaja Juvan Head to Head

Juvan leads 1-0; they last met in the 2018 ITF Bagnatica final, where the Slovenian won in three sets.

Juvan, the Home Favourite

After the exit of Tamara Zidansek in round two, Kaja Juvan is the only Slovenian left on the WTA Portoroz playing field.

The current World No. 72 hasn’t had that great of a year compared to the others, but she peaked at a career-high ranking of #58 earlier in the season.

The 21-year-old arrived for her home tournament on the back of a four-match losing streak, stretching across Wimbledon, Cincinnati Open, WTA Granby, and the US Open.

Against all odds, she managed to stun the sixth seed, Alize Cornet, in the opener with 7-6(5), 6-3, and thus, improved her tally to 23-17.

Despite her shaky form, Juvan has at times proven that she can punch above her weight. In May, she made it to her first WTA final in Strasbourg by beating the likes of Elise Mertens and Karolina Pliskova en route. In Wimbledon, Kaja reached round three after upsetting Beatriz Haddad Maia – the in-form Brazilian at the time.

Now that Juvan is playing at home, she will certainly fancy her prospects of another great run.

Paolini Starts Strong

World No. 55 Jasmine Paolini started her campaign with a resounding 7-5, 6-1 rout of Tara Wurth in the opener.

The defending champion has had a mixed season so far, with the bulk of her success coming on the clay courts. Case in point, the Italian was a quarterfinalist in Contrexeville Challenger and a semi-finalist in Warsaw and Palermo.

Of late, she has been in a similar rut as Juvan with a litany of early exits in the US Open swing; her best result there came in Granby, where she reached round two before losing to the World No. 90 Rebecca Marino.

On the whole, Paolini is now 18-20.

Paolini v Juvan Prediction and Tip

Paolini is more experienced than Juvan and also has a better pedigree overall. However, the bookies have placed her at 11/10 with Juvan at 8/11.

We can’t help but agree with that valuation – Jasmine’s lack of showing on hard courts may be exacerbated further by her opponent’s home advantage.

Tip: Juvan to Win, Over 21.5 Games: 12/5 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
