It has been a long, arduous recuperating journey for the former world number five Eugenie Bouchard on the WTA Tour. Since reaching her best form in 2014, the 28-year-old Canadian has tussled with a myriad of form woes and injuries.
Her singles form has declined steadily over the last several years, and in 2021, a shoulder injury kept her out of contention for a little while longer.
Bouchard planned her return to the tour at Wimbledon this year, but with no ranking points in play, she delayed the start and featured in the Vancouver Challenger.
Eugenie has played in only two tournaments before the Chennai Open; she lost in the opener in Vancouver to Arianne Hartono, while in the US Open, she fell to Linda Noskova in the second qualifying round.
Here in India, the current World No. 902 has beaten the likes of Joanne Zuger and Karman Thandi in straight sets to reach the quarters.
As a Wimbledon runner-up and seven-time WTA career finalist, Bouchard has a rich pedigree and experience to go the distance.

Podoroska Upsets Maria
Nadia Podoroska, ranked World No. 298, also had a late start to the season. However, unlike Bouchard, the Argentinean has had a decent run so far.
Although the 25-year-old has primarily focused on the ITF circuit, the momentum she has garnered there will likely help her move ahead on the circuit. Nadia was the semifinalist in Den Haag and Versmold and the runner-up in San Bartolome de Tirajana.
Most recently, she competed in the US Open but lost to Anna Karolina Schmiedlova in the opener.
Here in Chennai, she first defeated Kyoka Okamura in straight sets and followed it with a three-set win over Tatjana Maria 3-6, 6-2, 7-6(8).
Podoroska is yet to reach a singles final in her career.
Bouchard v Podoroska Prediction and Tip
Bouchard is the favourite here; she seems to be returning to her former self, and given her rich career, it is hard to imagine her falling to Podoroska.
