Elena Rybakina v Ana Bogdan Head to Head

This will be their first meeting on the WTA Tour.

Rybakina Breezes into Semis

World No. 25 Elena Rybakina has had a good week in Portoroz as she is now set to compete in the semifinal of the WTA 250 event.

She got off to a rocky start with a marathon three-setter against Laura Siegemund, ending 6-7(4), 6-4, 7-6(10) in three and a half hours. Rybakina also saved a match point in the final-set tiebreak to reach round two.

Her next match was easier as she dismissed Tereza Martincova 6-4, 6-1. Things have only gotten easier for the Kazakh since as she was slated to play Lesia Tsurenko next, but the latter withdrew from the match. With an extra day to rest, Elena is now ready for the semis.

The 23-year-old has had quite a season in 2022 as she won the Wimbledon Championships (beating Simona Halep and Ons Jabeur in the final rounds) and later reached the quarterfinal in Cincinnati – similar to Indian Wells Open.

Despite an early exit in the US Open to Clara Burel in round one, Rybakina has done well to turn her form around. She is now 35-16.

Bogdan Upsets Maia

Ana Bogdan has delivered one of the biggest wins of her year by knocking out the number two seed Beatriz Haddad Maia 1-6, 6-1, 7-5. The performance was in line with the superb season she has enjoyed so far.

In the preceding two rounds, Ana’s victories came over Ajla Tomljanovic and Tamara Zidansek in three sets. Before that, however, she played in the US Open but lost in the qualifying rounds.

These wins put Bogdan at 31-13, with her season highlights being the title run in Iasi Challenger and a runner-up feat in the Poland Open. The 29-year-old had also won an ITF tournament in January.

Statistically, this is also the best-performing season for the current World No. 65 – making it only the second time she has won more than 30 professional matches in a calendar year.

Bogdan v Rybakina Prediction and Tip

Rybakina is the odds-on favourite but backing Bogdan can lead to good returns, considering the latter is having a moment herself. Expect a good tussle between the two where the Kazakh should come out on the top with some doing.

Tip: Rybakina to Win, Over 20.5: 7/4 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
