Tabilo Made Second Round in Three Previous Tournaments

Clay is Tabilo’s go-to surface but he would be reasonably satisfied with his recent performances at Wimbledon, Winston-Salem and US Open. At each of those three competitions, Tabilo won his first round matches but then fell in the second.

His best performance came against Laslo Djere at Wimbledon where, he was a 7/4 outsider in his opener and came through in a fifth set tie-breaker, 13-11.

More recently, a fighting second round loss against JJ Wolf should give him a lot more confidence as Tabilo looks to climb up to his career-best ranking of 64th in the world.

The world number 69 has never won back to back matches in a hard court competition on the ATP tour before this. And while we are still in early days of this competition, his draw does give him that opportunity to do that for the first time in his careeer.

Johnson Hoping to Stall Fall

Once ranked 21st in the world, Johnson has been unable to recapture some of those glory days and has slowly slid down the rankings charts.

It was in 2019 he was still 33rd on the ATP Rankings but ended the season 85th, which is where he was after the 2021 season ended as well. And this year, Johnson has slid further down to 114th, with not too many results having gone his way.

What hasn’t obviously helped is he hasn’t been able to participate in the Masters competitions like at Cincinnati and Montreal recently, and when he did make it to the third round at Wimbledon, the points weren’t counted anyway.

What Johnson would hope is for a year-ending performance where he can consistently win a few matches in competitions, and much like his opponent here, he has a good chance of going the distance.

After all, he is up against a clay-court specialist and if he wins this, will face one of Brandon Holt or Constant Lestienne in the second round.

Tabilo v Johnson Prediction and Tip

This is an intriguing battle between a player who is in better form but is more of a clay court specialist and another who has struggled to make it count this season but does well on hard court. Expect a three-set battle that could go either way.

Tip: Three sets in the match: 6/4 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
