Denis Kudla v Fernando Verdasco Head to Head

There have been two previous meetings between these two players and both have won one apiece.

The first came at the 2015 Stockholm Open indoors on hard court where it was Kudla who prevailed before Verdasco avenged that defeat at the 2018 Houston Open on clay. Both results were straight-set wins.

Kudla Hoping to Overcome Horror Run

Such has been Kudla’s recent form that he has had to shift over to the Challenger circuit to get some much-needed practice. Coming into this tournament, the American was a semifinalist at the Cary 2 tournament there before falling to Dominik Koepfer.

Because before doing that, Kudla had won just a couple of matches in main draws of ATP competitions since the last week of March.

Yep, that’s about six months for his two victories and they have come in first rounds at the Queen’s Club competition and the Washington Open. And since that latter win, Kudla has lost five matches in a row leading up to the Cary Challenger.

With Kudla scraping for the odd win here and there, it does look like this could be his best chance to add to that tally given his opponent’s form too.

Verdasco’s Record No Better

If Kudla has been gasping for a whiff of wins, Verdasco’s struggles have been as bad if not worse.

The Spanish veteran last won a main draw match in Estoril where he got through to the main draw as a lucky loser, having earlier won a match at Rio in February. Making it worse for Verdasco is his record outside of clay – he has featured in five matches and lost all of them.

And here in San Diego, while he is coming up against a player in a similarly difficult position, Verdasco will know he might not stand a chance on hard courts.

Expecting the Spaniard to put up a fight but can he actually go on to win?

Kudla v Verdasco Prediction and Tip

This is an interesting battle between two players woefully out of sorts at the moment. Backing a Kudla win, probably even in three sets.

Tip: Kudla to win: 4/6 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
