Katerina Siniakova v Anna-Lena Friedsam Head to Head

Siniakova lead 2-1. She won in 2014 and 2015, while Friedsam won their last battle on 2016. So they will be meeting for the first time in six years.

Siniakova Takes Down Defending Champion

Katerina Siniakova took down defending champion Jasmine Paolini in a three-set quarterfinal on Saturday. It took two hours and 34 minutes for the Czech player to complete the three-set win and reach her first Tour semifinal of the season. The last time she was in the semis it was in Bad Homburg last year, when she finished runner-up to Angelique Kerber.

The World No. 82 converted 5 of 12 break points and saved 9 of 13 to beat the Italian 6-2, 3-6, 7-6 (7-5).

Siniakova, who had begun her campaign with an opening round win over Martina Trevisan, had beaten Britain’s Jodie Anna Burrage in the second round on Thursday. Both those wins had come in straight sets.

It has been a terrific year for Siniakova as a doubles player, as she won three Grand Slam titles with Barbora Krejcikova, and five in all to reach the World No. 1 ranking. But she has mostly struggled in singles.

However, a solid display on Saturday has put her in the semis and aw in against Friedsam will put her in the seventh final of her career. Can the two-time tour-level champion win a second match in the same day or will the mentally draining quarterfinal have an impact on her semifinal?

Friedsam Rallies Past Parry

For the third consecutive match qualifier Anna-Lena Friedsam took down an opponent in a deciding set to move into the semifinals of the Slovenia Open.

The German, who had not reached a tour level quarterfinal since finishing runner-up in Lyon in 2020, reached the semifinals with a comeback win over Diane Parry on Friday.

In a match that lasted close to three hours, the World no. 213 was outplayed by Parry in the first set. But she clawed her way back into the contest in the second set, coming back from a break down twice and then dominating the tiebreak to even the match at one-set apiece.

In the final set, the World No. 71 once again went up a break twice, but the German broke back immediately on both the occasions.

Friedsam however, edged ahead of Parry with a third break in the eighth game and then served out the match for a 1-6, 7-6 (7-4), 6-3 victory.

A two-time runner-up on the tour, Friedsam had also scored a come-from-behind win over Elizabeth Mandlik in the first round. The American had bageled the German in the opening set before going down in three. Friedsam had next taken down the top seed Emma Raducanu in three. The Briton had also bageled the German in the second set of the match but lost the first and the third to go out of the competition.

A win on Saturday can put Friedsam into a first final of the season at any level. She lost in the semifinals at the WTA 125 in Karlsruhe and also went down at the final four stage in ITF Brescia.

Siniakova v Friedsam Prediction and Tip

Siniakova has won a lot more than Friedsam on the tour this year but both players have played well in this tournament. It has to be seen if the Czech is ready enough for the semifinal after playing a mentally and physically draining quarterfinal just hours earlier on the same day. Siniakova will be favoured given her form and number of matches she has played this year on the tour, but Friedsam could pull off a surprise.

Tip: Friedsam to win in three: 11/2 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
