Dominic Thiem v Richard Gasquet Head to Head

There have been three previous meetings between these two players and Gasquet leads 2-1.

At the first two, at the indoor hardcourts of Basel and Vienna, it was Gasquet who ruled the roost before Thiem pulled one back at the 2019 ATP Beijing.

Thiem Preps with Strong Challenger Performance

Featuring at the Rennes Challenger in the lead-up to this competition in Marseille, Thiem has made it to the final there at the time of writing where he will take on Ugo Humbert. And whatever the result of that encounter, it must be added that Thiem is slowly, but steadily coming into his own.

Sure, Thiem lost in the first round at US Open late last month – a tournament he had won once before – but just prior to that defeat, there had been four successive tournaments at which the Austrian player reached at least the quarterfinal stage.

At Gstaad, on clay, he had gone one step ahead and made the semifinal, which is what he would now aim for here.

Can he kick things off with a strong against a player who has a better win-loss record against him?

In-Form Gasquet Gunning for Another Solid Showing

At 36, Gasquet might be closer to the end of his career than he is to the start but his performances this year haven’t let up.

Sure, Gasquet isn’t quite the player he once was when he was ranked seventh in the world, but he has made a move from a season low of 91st in the world to being 79th at the moment.

Add his third round appearances at both Wimbledon and US Open, to go with straight-set wins at Davis Cup and you are looking at a player whom Thiem will be shy of taking for granted.

Gasquet is a one-time finalist at Metz, having also gotten to the semifinal on two previous occasions but can he now emulate a his second round appearance from last season?

Thiem v Gasquet Prediction and Tip

This could turn to be an interesting battle with Thiem starting out a slight favourite at 8/11 at the moment. Gasquet will fancy his chances though with odds of 10/11 for his victory.
