Aslan Karatsev v Lorenzo Sonego
Aslan Karatsev and Lorenzo Sonego have not enjoyed playing tennis this year as both of them have struggled with their form. The Russian has a 15-23 score this year and this will be hist first event since the US Open. His opponent Sonego hasn’t been playing that well either as he’s 20-24 on the year.
Neither of them are known as particularly great indoor players but both of them have a powerful serve so if they have it working, they can be tricky to beat. Both are very streaky with Sonego having the far higher peak but he’s been unable to hit it for a very long time now.
What is interesting in this one is the H2H as Karatsev leads 3-0. Two of those matches were this year and both were won by Karatsev in three sets. I do expect another close one with Karatsev the slightly favourite as of now. That H2H record means something and I think he’ll add another win to it.
Tip: Karatsev to win: 7/10 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
Sebastian Korda v Hugo Gaston
A couple of Next Gen players will face each other in the first round of the Moselle Open. Korda and Gaston have played once before and it was at the Next Gen showdown in Milan last year. Quite competitive with Korda winning 3-2 and I expect this one to be as well.
Gaston is a solid player albeit not one that can go to the top as Korda can. The French player does play really well indoors and on clay and usually performs best when playing in France. It’s nothing new, most French players do the same.
Korda has a powerful serve and strong groundstrokes so he is well equipped for these conditions. He has a higher potential than Gaston and has done better in the pros so far. He also has a positive score this year (23-17) compared to a negative one by Gaston (17-25).
I expect a competitive match but am unsure of the winner so take the over.
Tip: Over 21.5 games in the match: 5/6 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
Qinwen Zheng v Misaki Doi
An interesting matchup in Tokyo awaits us as Qinwen Zheng takes on Misaki Doi. The Japanese player will be buzzing to go in front of her native fans but it’s a very tough task. She faces a very strong Zheng who has had an excellent season so far.
Zheng is 32-15 and she does really well on hard courts where she won the majority of her matches this year (21). Doi is a fighter but her talent simply has a cap and she can’t take on some of the best in the world. Playing at home is a boost but Zheng has proven many times this year that she is quite unphased by the moment.
Roland Garros showed it best when she nearly beat Iga Swiatek. I do think Zheng should win and she should win fairly comfortably. The best bet in this spot is to take her to win 2-0.
Tip: Zheng to win in straight sets: 1/2 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
