Xinyu Wang v Ellen Perez Head to Head
This is going to be a first meeting between the two players.

Wang Aiming for Consistency
Wang Xinyu will be looking to get some consistency in her game. The 20-year-old did win an ITF title this year — the fifth of her career, but she hasn’t been able to go to far in other tournaments.
The World no. 77 is 4-15 in the main draws at the tour level. As far as her recent form goes, she is 1-7 in her last eight matches, seven of which were on the tour and one at a qualifier level.
Wang, who was a WTA 125 runner-up in Columbus last year, will be making her Tokyo debut.
The Chinese player will be desperate to get into some sort of rhythm. Wang had last won consecutive matches in Berlin this year, where she won two qualifiers and then the first round match before falling in the second round.
She will hope to start win a win against the qualifier but will then run into either Elena Rybakina or Liudmilla Samsonova, both of whom have been in good touch recently.

Perez Comes Through the Qualifying rounds
World No. 345 Ellen Perez qualified for the main draw with a 7-5, 6-2 victory over the United States’ Danielle Lao in the second qualifying round on Sunday.
The Australian had beaten Japan’s Sayaka Ishii 6-3, 6-3 in the first qualifying round on Saturday.
Perez is 10-16 across levels this year. The 26-year-old had lost nine matches in a row, before winning a qualifying round in her last tournament in Toronto. She lost in the second qualifier in Toronto but is 2 from 2 in Tokyo thanks to which she will be making her second main draw appearance of the season on the tour.
A brilliant doubles player, Perez finished runners-up at the Canadian and the Cincinnati Opens with Nicole Melichar-Martinez. She won two doubles titles this year, winning with Melichar-Martinez in Cleveland and with Tamara Zidanšek in Rosmalen.
Wang v Perez Prediction and Tip
Wang is the favourite to win this contest. Expect her to oust the qualifier in the opener.
