Bublik Struggling in Hard Court Competitions This Season

While Bublik has won one the only tournament of his career in a tournament on indoor hardcourt surface this season, his record outdoors has been rather poor in 2022.

The Kazakh has won just five of his 13 matches played in outdoor hardcourt competitions, and never gone past the second round of any of those tournaments.

More recently, in the US Open Series, Bublik featured in just two tournaments – at the Montreal Masters and the US Open – and won just one match, and that came against Hugo Gaston. Defeats to Jenson Brooksby and Pablo Carreno Busta only added to the six previous losses on this surface throughout the season.

The good news for Bublik is he returns to the surface where he won his maiden ATP title and while he hasn’t played at Metz before this, it might come as a huge relief coming into this one.

Furness Makes ATP Tour Debut

Furness is ranked outside the top 200 on the ATP Tour and will be making his main draw debut in this tournament. The Frenchman, in turn, has had to work hard to get this far.

The 24-year-old faced fellow Frenchmen in both his qualifiers and started off a whopping second-favourite in those encounters. Against Geoffrey Blancaneaux in his opener, Furness was 11/10 to overcome his opponent and he scraped through in a difficult three-setter.

Quentin Halys started off 3/10 to go past Furness and found the going rather rough with his 208th-ranked opponent coming through 6-3, 6-4 to enter the main draw.

What Furness now faces is whopping odds against him – he is 4/1 to shock Bublik here – but given his opponent’s recent form, he could fancy himself a chance.

Bublik v Furness Prediction and Tip

Bublik is 1/5 favourite to win this but as far as form goes, it might not get any easy on him. Expect Furness to snatch a set.

Tip: Furness to win a set – Yes: 8/11 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
