Sofia Kenin v Fernanda Contreras Gomez
Sofia Kenin was able to score some important wins during her run in North America as she tries to make her way back to the top of tennis. The grand slam champion dealt with a lot of injuries and some confidence issues but she is hopeful of finally using her good health to build some momentum.
She’s only 4-11 on the year but let’s not forget this is a player that won a grand slam and played in another final. Those two results were made on different surfaces so she obviously has what it takes. It’s about getting that confidence back.
The opponent is a measured one and one that Kenin should beat. She is heavily favoured in this one against the 25-year-old Mexican who is ranked inside the top 200 but at 182. She has a winning record this year 34-20 but most of these wins came against lesser opponents.
I do expect a fight but Kenin should be able to win this one in three sets.
Tip: Kenin to win in three sets: 3/1 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
Eugenie Bouchard v Tatjana Maria
Bouchard made her way back to the WTA tour last week by scoring her first WTA Tour-level win in 18 months. The Canadian added one more win before being beaten by Nadia Podoroska. Those wins should give her more confidence heading into this clash with Maria a very tricky opponent.
Bouchard managed only six matches so far this year but half of those were wins. Maria played far more tennis this year but there is a catch. Her overall record is 45-25 which is superb but the only surface where she has a negative record are hard courts. She is only 7-11 on those.
Bouchard does have the weapons to hurt Maria in these conditions but she will be tested quite a bit in this one. She will need to have consistency enough to hit the ball hard against the superb defensive prowess of Maria. I do think Bouchard will have some success but not enough to win.
I’ll back Maria here.
Tip: Maria to win: 3/5 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
Emma Raducanu v Moyuka Uchijima
Emma Raducanu is a huge favourite here as she makes her debut at the WTA event in Seoul. It’s not hard to see why she’s a favourite because she’s the more complete player and a better one. However, the previous month proved that she still tends to struggle in those positions.
Last week in Portoroz, Raducanu looked solid but not amazing. She lost to Friedsam who is a decent player but far from a player you’d expect to beat Raducanu. Something like that can happen against Uchijima as well even if she’s not that well established.
She’s played solid in previous weeks and despite not having a win in the last two events she played, she is a tricky player to beat. I expect Raducanu to win here but it won’t be as easy as she knows to win. I expect to see more than 18 games in the match.
Tip: Raducanu to win AND Over 18.5 games: 5/4 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
