Mikael Ymer v Gregoire Barrere Head to Head

While they have never faced off earlier at this level, these players have met twice on the Challenger circuit. Both have won one, with the matches having come on indoor hard court surfaces in 2019.

Ymer Pulls Through Against Mannarino

He wasn’t quite the favourite starting out in his opening round match here against Adrian Mannarino but Ymer pulled through to the second round with a straight-set win.

The Swede needed an hour and 48 minutes to set up his meeting with Barrere, winning 7-5, 6-0 in his opener.

The first set saw the two players exchange six breaks of serves to take them to 4-4 before Ymer got five set-points on Mannarino’s serve. He converted it off the fifth.

With his confidence sky-high, Ymer proceeded to dissect Mannarino’s serve in the second set with the Frenchman winning just five points on his own serve.

Ymer, who had reached the semifinal of the Washington Open earlier this year, now has a chance to make it to the quarterfinal of an ATP event for the fourth time this year when he takes on a second French opponent in a row.

Barrere Dispels the Otte Threat

Oscar Otte has struggled to get going in recent times and while Barrere did not have it very easy, he managed to carve out a straight-set win over his German opponent in the opener.

Barrere won 7-6 (3), 7-5 in a match lasting less and an hour and a half to book the second round berth only for the second time this season.

Otte took the early lead by breaking Barrere in the fourth game, but once the French player had broken back in the ninth game, he slowly garnered more control. Barrere, ranked 167th in the world, helped himself to four set points in the tie-breaker and clinched it off the second.

The second set followed a similar pattern with Otte taking a 4-2 lead again only to drop serve twice and go down in a hurry.

Can Barrere put up a similar display against Ymer as well?
