Daniil Medvedev v Stan Wawrinka Head to Head
There have been three previous matches between these two and Medvedev leads Wawrinka 2-1.
Medvedev had won at the 2017 Wimbledon and 2019 US Open while Wawrinka shocked his opponent at the 2020 Australian Open round of 16 encounter.

By anybody else’s standards, a fourth round appearance at the US Open might not sound that bad but here’s a player who had been number one earlier this year. Which is why, Medvedev might not be very chuffed at having been knocked out of the tournament that early.
More so because of the manner in which the season has gone for the now-world number four, what with the Russian having won just one title and lost three other finals.
Some experts reckon Medvedev hasn’t been the same kind of player that he was after his Australian Open final defeat which saw him go down to Rafael Nadal from being two sets up.
One way or the other, Medvedev has the pedigree to turn things around and with the pressure now off him, one could see him rebuild his way back into top form.

Wawrinka Hops Past Sousa
Injuries haven’t really helped but Wawrinka would hope to get through this trying phase of his career really quickly as he looks to get back to a respectable ranking.
Currently ranked 284th in the world, Wawrinka will need to start winning more matches to do that and an opening round victory here should help.
Needing to qualify to get into the main draw of this competition, Wawrinka managed to make it to the second round with a straight-set win over Joao Sousa. He won 7-6 (1), 6-2 to set up this meeting with Medvedev.
That follows a string of five opening round losses – and six in a row including the second round defeat at Queen’s earlier this year.
While that surely is good news for the Swiss player, he now has the onerous task of putting out the world number four. Will be interesting to see how that goes.
