Garbine Muguruza v Liudmila Samsonova Head to Head
Muguruza leads 1-0; they last met in the 2021 Australian Open, where the Spaniard won in straight sets.

Samsonova Passes Wang Test
Liudmila Samsonova has done well to carry her form forward from the North American swing here.
In the first round, she beat the current Wimbledon champion Elena Rybakina and followed it with a 7-6(5), 6-3 win over Xinyu Wang in round two.
The 23-year-old has made it to her third quarterfinal in the last four tournaments. She won the Citi Open and Cleveland Open tournaments and followed that result with a fourth-round stint in the US Open.
Samsonova is having herself a career-best season; she shortly became the World No. 25 before sliding down to the #30 spot. Her record stands at an impressive 25-15.
With a fair bit of momentum to her game, she is poised wonderfully to reach the semifinal. Of course, Muguruza is slated to put up a fight, but given her lack of form, an upset is certainly on the cards.

Muguruza Beats Papamichail
Number three seed Garbine Muguruza started her campaign in the Toray Pan Pacific Open with a bye into round two. In the opener, she beat Despine Papamichail 6-4, 6-2 to reach the quarters.
The two-time Grand Slam winner is looking to turn around her hapless spell in 2022. She has been way out of form; Garbine is now 12-15 and, thus, has posted her worst results tally in a calendar year.
Nonetheless, she is World No. 12 right and has a rich pedigree and experience to back her game.
Most recently, the 28-year-old competed in the US Open, where she lost to Petra Kvitova in round three. Keeping that aside, Muguruza has surprisingly fallen to the likes of Kaia Kanepi, Greet Minnen, Andrea Petkovic, Martina Trevisan, and Anhelina Kalinina.
Muguruza v Samsonova Prediction and Tip
We can’t entirely discard Muguruza’s chances of winning this. After all, it takes just one good match to turn it all around. That said, Samsonova is the favourite here and will likely put up a good fight to reach the semis.
