Shuai Zhang v Liudmila Samsonova Head to Head
Zhang and Samsonova have never played each other before this in a competitive encounter.

In the very first tournament Zhang featured on indoor hard court surface this season, she was knocked out in the very first round. That loss had come at the St. Petersburg Open in February.
Since then, the Chinese player has played in eight matches on this surface and won every single time, including at title victory at Lyon earlier this year.
The latest of those victims was Petra Martic whom Zhang defeated rather easily in an hour and 24 minutes with the 28th-ranked player winning 7-5, 6-2.
Surviving eight aces and two breaks of serves, Zhang failed to convert three set-points on her own serve at 5-3 in the first set before breaking Martic to love in the 12th game to win it.
The second set was a lot easier for the Chinese player as she raced off to a 5-1 lead, before winning it off her fifth match-point. Having already stunned Caroline Garcia in the tournament, Zhang will look to continue building on her form.

Samsonova Makes Short Work of Muguruza
While on paper, Garbine Muguruza is a higher-ranked and a better-pedigreed player, nobody had given her much of a chance against Samsonova when they met in the quarterfinal round. And Samsonova showed why they were all correct in their assessment.
In a match that lasted an hour and 23 minutes, Samsonova coasted to a 6-4, 6-2 win over her Spanish opponent to seal her semifinal berth.
Muguruza did put up bit of a fight in the first set, breaking back on two occasions but serving at 4-4, she failed to hold on to her serve for the third time and Samsonova converted it to love.
The second set, like for Zhang, was a lot easier for Samsonova as well, as she broke Muguruza in the first and fifth game to clinch the match to make it 16 wins from her previous 17 matches.

While Zhang has exhibited solid capabilities in this tournaments, she is up against a player who is on a bit of a spree here. Samsonova to win this, may be with a bit of a fight.
