Tomas Berdych v Matthias Bachinger Head to Head

Despite this being a match between two players, both aged more than 30, Berdych and Bachinger have played each other just once before this and that came at the Stockholm Open semi-final in 2014. Berdych was a 7-6, 6-4 winner over Bachinger.

Berdych Looking to Claw Back up

Despite having had a great start to the season, the former world number four has fallen to number 79th in the ATP rankings. This was after he made the final at the Doha Open and then as far as the fourth round at the Australian Open where he went down to Rafael Nadal.

In every sense of the world, however, it has been a comeback to remember for the Czech, who hadn’t played since featuring at the Queen’s competition last season. This was due to a back injury that took its own time recovering but now that he has returned back it seems he’s made full recovery and that has shown in his performances too.

Wins over Philipp Kohlschreiber, Fernando Verdasco, Pierre-Hugues Herbert and Marco Cecchinato at that Doha Open bear ample testimony to that fact. You add the scalps of Kyle Edmund, Robin Haase and Diego Schwartzman at the Australian Open, you know Berdych is a serious contender for the title despite being unseeded at Montpellier.

Bachinger Hoping for a Turnaround

The German hasn’t found a lot of top-level success in his career so far as is exemplified by the fact he’s yet to win a title on the ATP tour. This season hasn’t begun too well for him either, having faltered at the qualifying stages at the Qatar Open and Australian Open and bowing out in the last-eight round of the Quimper Challenger.

However, the light at the end of the tunnel comes in the form of winning both his qualifiers at this tournament to enter the main draw, but more importantly from the confidence he can take from making it to his first and only ATP final – it happened last year at the Moselle Open in France itself.

That said, it’s not going to be easy for the German with the kind of opposition he is up against.

Berdych v Bachinger Predictions & Tips

It comes as no surprise that Berdych is 1/4  (William Hill) to win this match and he should win it too. What we recommend here is for Berdych to win this two sets to love, with  Unibet offering 7/10 for that.
