Novak Djokovic v Frances Tiafoe Head to Head
Only one previous meeting has occurred between these two – it came at the 2021 Australian Open – and Djokovic had won that second round encounter in four sets.

After having won the Wimbledon title in July, Djokovic hasn’t taken to court on a competitive basis.
He wasn’t allowed to feature at the US Open, or any of the US Open Series tournaments because of the vaccination issue and then opted not to feature in the Davis Cup competition last week.
As a result, Djokovic enters this year’s Laver Cup on the back of nearly two and a half months of no tennis action under his belt.
What makes things even more interesting is Djokovic has featured in only three matches on hard court this season. Those came in Dubai in February, with the 21-time Grand Slam winner clinching two victories but losing to Jiri Vesely in the quarterfinal.

Tiafoe Returns after Federer Win
Tiafoe had featured on the first day of the Laver Cup competition as he combined with Jack Sock to end Roger Federer’s career with a defeat.
The American combo of Tiafoe and Sock overcame Federer and Rafael Nadal 4-6, 7-6 (2), 11-9 in an emotional, yet rip-roaring contest to earn Team World a precious point in the Laver Cup 2022.
Coming into this year’s tournament, Tiafoe recorded his best ever showing at a Grand Slam too, as he reached the semifinal of the 2022 US Open in the last competition he played in.
And even in that last four match against Carlos Alcaraz, Tiafoe showed what he was capable of as he pushed the current number one to a the fifth set before falling away.
Tiafoe has the rhythm and in a lot of ways, the momentum and could look to take advantage of Djokovic’s rustiness here.

While Djokovic is a favourite obviously, we cannot discount Tiafoe in this best-of-three, match tie-breaker sort of a contest. An intriguing match all the same.
