Marcos Giron v Brandon Nakashima Head to Head
This will be their first tour-level meeting. Nakashima won their only meeting at the Challenger level two years ago.

Giron Into His First Final
World No. 58 Marcos Giron marched into the first final of his career with a straight sets win over top seed and World No. 25 Dan Evans in the semifinal on Saturday.
Giron wasn’t broken in the match as he saved all three of the break points that he faced while he broke his opponent once in each set for a 6-3, 7-5 victory.
The American served 11 aces, struck 40 winners and won 80% points on his first serve to knock out the Briton.
Giron has not dropped a set on his way to the final. After receiving a first round bye, the 29-year-old defeated Argentina’s Tomás Martín Etcheverry in the Round of 16 and then knocked out seventh seed Aussie James Duckworth in the quarterfinal.
Giron had come into the tournament with a woeful 12-24 tour-level record this season. He had lost 16 first round matches this year and had reached just one semifinal in Dallas. But he has found form in San Diego and will be aiming to win a maiden title on Sunday.

Nakashima Battles Past O’Connell
While Giron will be playing in a first final, Brandon Nakashima will be playing his third. The 21-year-old knocked out Australia’s Christopher O’Connell 6-4, 7-6 (7-3) in an hour and 51 minute semifinal on Saturday.
The World No. 69, who finished runner-up in Los Cabos and Atlanta last year, has had another strong run this year. The four wins in San Diego has improved him to 25-19 this season.
While he had made it to four quarterfinals this season, he would be delighted to have made it past the last eight in San Diego and will hope to cap off the week with a maiden title.
Nakashima began the tournament by beating a pair of Americans, Zachary Svajda and Denis Kudla, in straight sets in the first two rounds respectively. He then defeated Daniel Elahi Galán in a three-set quarterfinal, before battling past O’Connell.
Nakashima, who won 83% points on his first serve, won the key moments against the Aussie. He got the only break of the match in the first set, and then dominated the second set tiebreak of the close contest.
Giron v Nakashima Prediction and Tip
Both players will be desperate to win their maiden titles and therefore, one can expect a close three-set final.
Nakashima’s past experience of playing in two finals may help, even though he didn’t win either of those two. It’s a tough one to call, but Nakashima may edge past Giron to lift the trophy.
