Karatsev Back in Israel

Aslan Karatsev spent quite a bit of time in Israel at one point in his career and there was also talks about him representing the country in tennis.

It never happened that way but he’ll be glad to return to it and play some tennis. The Russian will take on a player he never played in round one but he’s also far better equipped for hard courts.

The vast majority of the success Etcheverry had this year happened on clay courts and Karatsev is far better on hard courts and indoors especially. The Russian will need his serve as it’s a major weapon for him, but the forehand will also need to be sharp.

He can get into a bad rhythm and spray errors and that’s a clear thing he will need to avoid. It’s been a bad run of results for him lately with a couple of consecutive round one exits.

In Metz last week, it was a bad match and defeat to Sonego, but the Italian is contesting the final so in retrospect, it’s not a terrible result.

Etcheverry to Try Indoors

Tomas Etcheverry played most of his matches on clay this year and he’s been greatly successful. The good form on clay allowed him to accumulate a lot of points and enter the top 100 which in turn allowed him to play more events like this one.

Indoors is not something he knows very well but he has some things in his game that could work well on the surface. He’s quite tall and has a powerful serve which could give him a chance to finish off points quicker. He can be quite aggressive as well and that will be crucial too.

Most of it though is about his serve and if he brings it in that regard, it could get interesting. He did play some hard court matches this year but his record is a lacklustre 4-5, but practice makes perfect.

It’s a fair challenge for him and one that he’ll embrace.

Karatsev v Etcheverry Prediction and Tip

So they never played before but they have similar playstyles. As it’s indoors, a lot will depend on the serve and both are capable of serving really well.

The safest bet would be to do the over cause I could see Karatsev complicating things a bit.

Tip: Over 21/5 games in the match: 5/6 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
