Dusan Lajovic v Jan-Lennard Struff Head to Head

There have been two previous meetings between these players and Struff has won both times. The first came at the 2014 Moselle Open before they met again last year at the ATP Cup.

Both matches went into a third set.

Struff Makes it Through the Qualifiers

By winning the two qualifying rounds here in Sofia, Struff has now made it five victories in a row which also includes three at the Davis Cup about a week or so ago.

And that would be bit of a relief for Struff who has been reeling down the ATP Rankings charts for a while now.

Once in the top 30 of the rankings, Struff is currently ranked 132nd in the world and that has been down to his performances this season at the ATP level. Struff has won just two main draw matches – at the ATP Cup in January and Stuttgart Open in June.

What is slightly surprising as a result is he still starts a favourite here and by some distance and that could be down to how poorly his opponent has been performing in recent times.

Clay the Way for Lajovic

Lajovic isn’t much of a hardcourt player, not when you compare it with his performances on clay.

It becomes slightly worse off when he’s playing on indoor hardcourts, with Lajovic winning just five matches on that surface from the last 15 tournaments he’s featured in. And he now takes on a player who has shown a radical, form upswing.

The Serb, who was once ranked 23rd in the world, has had an underwhelming year otherwise too, winning just 11 matches from 33, including a poor 6-10 on his favourite clay surface as well.

Lajovic is 32 and while he still might have a few years of tennis left on him, he will know he needs to start turning things around quickly before he falls out of the top 100 of the rankings. It might not happen just yet.

Lajovic v Struff Prediction and Tip

This is an interesting one. Struff, who has himself been struggling to notch up victories starts a 11/20 favourite to win this. Tempted to go with Lajovic for a win, who is 7/5 to clinch it.
