Solid Davis Cup Showing for van de Zandschulp
While van de Zandaschulp would have liked to do a lot better than his second round exit at the US Open, his recent form has been quite reasonable and it could be a matter of time before he makes it big in a tournament.
The Dutchman is coming off three successive singles wins at the Davis Cup too. Making those victories special is the fact they came against better quality players – at least on paper and according to the bookmakers’ odds.
It started off with a three-set win over Alexander Bublik before van de Zandaschulp proceeded to rout both, Cameron Norrie and Taylor Fritz in straight sets.
A semifinal appearance earlier in Winston-Salem was his third for the season, having made the final once too. Can he start things off with a convincing performance here?

Sousa 13-17 This Season
Sousa was once a top-30 player and while nothing can stop him from getting there again, his performances this season indicate otherwise. From the 30 main draw matches he has played at the highest level in 2022, Sousa has won just 13, with eight of those coming in two tournaments.
Those wins came at Pune and Geneva where he made the finals before losing to Emil Ruusuvuori and Casper Ruud respectively. That made it 12 ATP finals for Sousa as well, with the Portuguese player having won four titles.
What that implies is when Sousa gets on to a roll, he can go far but at other times there’s not a lot of wins coming under his belt. In fact from his previous 11 tournaments, he has won a main draw match in just two.
Can he put up a fight against van de Zandaschulp?
van de Zandschulp v Sousa Prediction and Tip
There shouldn’t be too many issues for van de Zandaschulp who starts off a 3/10 favourite. Tough call on the number of sets though because we think Sousa could put up a fight.
Tip: Over 0.5 Tie-Breakers in the Match: 13/8 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
