David Goffin v Filip Krajinovic Head to Head
In their only previous meeting, Goffin had defeated Krajinovic in four sets at the 2015 French Open first round match. The Serb had taken a one-set lead before Goffin came back strongly to win the remaining three and move into the second round.
Goffin to Shrug Off Injury Problems
With Goffin looking to climb back into the top 10 after having made as high as the number seven spot in 2017, he will hope he can maintain some sort of a rhythm from the Australian Open. The Belgian did win the Qatar Open doubles competition last month but other than notifying about his fitness, there wasn’t much to infer from the result.
Speaking of the singles play, Goffin’s last tournament win came at the Tokyo Open in October 2017 before fitness troubles began to mount last year. He had to end his season early last year, in September, because of an elbow issue before featuring at the Australian Open this season.
Having made the quarter-final of that event in 2017, Goffin won his first two rounds at the Australian Open earlier this year before running into Daniil Medvedev and losing in straight sets to the 15th seed.
Again, the indicators were good, it’s probably just about getting into the right frame of mind even against the top players and start winning them.
Krajinovic Aiming for 2017-18-Like Form
26-year-old Krajinovic is coming off a straight-set win over Nicolas Mahut in his first round match, defeating the Frenchman 7-6, 6-4 to move into the second. The world number 72, however, would be aiming for a lot better showing than what was the case towards the second half of 2018 where he fell from his career-best 26th ranked to nearly 70th on the ATP circuit.
Like Goffin, a lot of this was due to fitness concerns, which caused him to miss the French Open. He played in only seven tournaments in the first seven months of 2018, with injuries to left ankle, left foot and hand being the cause of that issue. And then he lost his US Open first round encounter against Matthew Ebden when he withdrew in the final set because of cramps.
Has he put those issues behind him?
