Unseeded Czech player Tomas Berdych ran off in a blistering fashion to make it to the Montpellier Open quarter-final on Wednesday.
Having shown sparkling form earlier in the year, Berdych continued with that as he romped to a 6-2, 6-0 win over Benoit Paire at the Open Sud de France.
Having won the title at Montpellier in 2012, he has now won six matches in a row at the competition and that record was somewhat replicated within the match against his eighth seeded opponent Paire. After having got an early break and got a 4-2 lead in the first set, Berdych won eight games in a row to finish off the match in a mere 58 minutes.
He won five of the 10 break-points he got and dropped a mere five points on his first serve to register his fourth win over Paire. The Frenchman is yet to beat Berdych in an ATP match.
In his quarter-final encounter, Berdych will take on either second seed David Goffin or Filip Krajinovic and you can watch the live streaming of that encounter here.
In another match, Jeremy Chardy, a semi-finalist at the Brisbane International, made it to another quarter-final after he defeated qualifier Antoine Hoang 6-3, 7-5.
The sixth seed played faced six break points and saved all but one of them to advance into the next round where he will face another Frenchman, Gilles Simon or Jo-Wilfried Tsonga.
In some of the other second round matches, Radu Albot, who defeated fifth seed Philipp Kohlschreiber in the opener, will take on Ernests Gulbis.
Marcos Baghdatis plays Lucas Pouille, after the Cypriot overcame lucky loser Ruben Bemelmans 6-2, 6-4 in their opening round match.
