Jannik Sinner’s unbeaten run in Sofia came to an end on Saturday in an unfortunate manner as the World no. 10 Italian injured his ankle after taking a fall in the third set which ultimately forced him to retire while he trailed Holger Rune 2-5 in the decider.
A two-time defending champion, Sinner was 11-0 in Sofia before the semifinal on Saturday. It started well for him, when he took the first set 5-7, but Rune rebounded to tie things up in the second. Sinner had a nasty fall in the sixth game of the third, with Rune leading 2-3. He couldn’t recover from that and eventually quit with Rune leading 5-7, 6-4, 5-2.
Rune’s road to the final includes a tough first round win over Tim van Rijthoven, with the 19-year-old beating the Dutchman in two tiebreaks. In the second round, Rune fought back from a break down to beat Lorenzo Sonego in three. He also needed three sets to win his quarterfinal against Ilya Ivashka and was also taken to three in the semis before the top seed retired.
The World no. 31 is now 24-22 on the tour this year. He won his maiden ATP title in Munich this year and will be hoping to keep his perfect finals record intact by making it 2 in 2 finals on Sunday.

Huesler Knocks out the Fourth Seed
World no. 95 Marc-Andrea Huesler is into his first tour-level final after he defeated fourth seed Lorenzo Musetti in straight sets on Saturday.
The 26-year-old Swiss player won 83% points (40 of 48) on his first serve, saved the only break point that he faced and converted the only one that he held to win the one hour and 37 minute contest 7-6 (7-5), 7-5.
Huesler had begun the campaign with a straight sets win over Geoffrey Blancaneaux of France. He then ousted the second seed Pablo Carreno Busta in three before toppling Poland’s Kamil Majchrzak in a comeback win in the quarterfinals.
Huesler is 43-24 across levels this year. he hasn’t played much on the tour, with a run to the semis in Winston-Salem being his previous best this year. At the lower level, the Swiss had won two Challenger titles on clay this year. Can he win a maiden title on Sunday?
